Job Announcement: Part-Time Stewardship Specialist

Location: Frankfort, KY (office and field-based)
Schedule: Part-time (Negotiable. Approximately 10 hours per week)

Woods & Waters Land Trust (WWLT), an accredited nonprofit based in central Kentucky, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Stewardship Specialist to join our team on a part-time basis. WWLT protects forests, streams, and working lands within the Lower Kentucky River watershed through land conservation and long-term stewardship.

This position plays a key role in monitoring WWLT’s conservation easements and managing our fee-owned lands to ensure the protection of conservation values. The Stewardship Specialist conducts site visits, maintains records, communicates with landowners, and assists with land management tasks. The role involves both fieldwork and office work and offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to land conservation in Kentucky.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and document annual monitoring visits for WWLT’s conservation easement properties.

  • Support land management activities on WWLT-owned lands, including trail maintenance, invasive species control which includes the occasional use of herbicide, and boundary posting.

  • Maintain organized records, update monitoring files, and assist with digital recordkeeping.

  • Respond to landowner inquiries and assist in ensuring conservation easement compliance.

  • Participate in staff meetings, partner engagement, and occasional outreach events.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, environmental science, or a related field.

  • Minimum two years of relevant experience.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to hike on uneven terrain and work in variable weather.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; basic GIS skills preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license and access to personal transportation (mileage reimbursed).

  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with conservation easements and land management practices.

  • Knowledge of Kentucky’s native and invasive plants.

  • Experience working with landowners, volunteers, or partner organizations.

  • Understanding of Land Trust Standards and Practices.
