Discover, Learn, and Celebrate the Kentucky River
Join us for the fourth annual Paddle for a Purpose, a fall tradition that connects people to the beauty and importance of the Kentucky River while raising funds to protect its forests, streams, and wildlife. This year’s event will look a little different — and even more exciting.
When spring flooding reshaped parts of the Lower Kentucky River Watershed and damaged several locks and dams, it changed the way we navigate the river. So this year, our paddle will begin and end at the River House in Frankfortand will take us through Lock & Dam 4 on a 4–6 mile flatwater float.
Along the way, we’ll make scheduled stops for riverside conversations with naturalists, historians, and other educators who will share stories about the river’s past, present, and future. A special highlight this year: a biologist from the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources’ Center for Mollusk Conservation will join us to talk about the incredible — and often overlooked — world of native freshwater mussels and the vital role they play in keeping the river healthy.
We’ll also stop at the River Row Boathouse, one of Woods & Waters Land Trust’s newest projects, to learn how this riverside space is becoming a hub for community, recreation, and stewardship.
After the paddle, stick around for food, music, and good company as we celebrate the river and the community that cares for it.
All equipment and shuttle services are provided by our Paddle for a Purpose partner, Canoe Kentucky.
All proceeds directly support Woods & Waters Land Trust’s work protecting land and water in the Lower Kentucky River Watershed.
