Protecting the Waters That Connect Us

The Kentucky River and its tributaries are part of what makes our region special. They provide drinking water for our communities, sustain fish and wildlife, support agriculture and local industries, and offer beautiful places to paddle, fish, explore, and connect with nature.

These waterways are also essential to Kentucky's identity and economy. Clean, reliable water is especially important to our signature bourbon industry, which depends on the natural resources of our region.

Healthy waterways begin with healthy land. Forests, wetlands, and streamside vegetation help filter pollutants, reduce erosion, improve water quality, and provide critical habitat for wildlife. Protecting these natural areas benefits everything from the fish and mussels living beneath the water's surface to the birds and other wildlife that depend on healthy rivers and streams.

Woods and Waters Land Trust works with landowners and community partners to permanently protect forests, streams, wetlands, and working lands throughout the Lower Kentucky River watershed. Our work helps safeguard the natural resources that sustain our communities and make this such a wonderful place to live and explore.

Connecting People to Our Waterways

We're proud to partner with Canoe Kentucky and Kentucky River Tours, two businesses that share our appreciation for the beauty and importance of our rivers and streams.

Every day, they help people experience these special places firsthand—whether paddling Elkhorn Creek or cruising the Kentucky River aboard the Bourbon Belle. These experiences build connections to our waterways and an appreciation for why they deserve protection.

Kentucky River Tours also generously donates a portion of the proceeds of their Bourbon Belle tour to Woods and Waters Land Trust, directly supporting local land conservation.

We're grateful for their partnership and their commitment to connecting people with the natural places that make our region special.

Love This View? Protect It.

The places we love don't protect themselves. Every acre of forest, wetland, and streamside habitat we conserve helps keep our watershed healthy.

Your support makes this work possible. Whether you give $5, $25, or more, you're helping protect the land and water that sustain wildlife, support our communities, and make experiences on the river possible.

Thank you for being part of local conservation.
